O que fazer em SP: Visitando a Pinacoteca e o Restaurante Cora

What to do in São Paulo: Visiting the Pinacoteca and Cora Restaurant

Posted by Raquel Pepineli on

The series Megers in Action is a big hit on our Instagram. The goal of this program is to explore São Paulo and show how many amazing activities there are around the city. To help the content reach more people, we decided to bring it here to our blog :) So keep an eye out, as we'll always be bringing more details about the outings here!

Megers in Action: Visiting the Pinacoteca de São Paulo and Cora Restaurant

To choose the first outing for the series, we held a drawing. Among so many cool options - which were previously listed - the lucky winner was the Pinacoteca. I'm biased, seeing as it's my favorite art museum in São Paulo, haha. Our itinerary was: lunch at Cora Restaurant, dessert at Sorveteria do Centro, and for a cultural outing, the Pinacoteca.

Lunch at Cora:

Cora is a new restaurant, which recently celebrated its 1st anniversary. What caught our attention, besides the menu that looked delicious, was the location: with a view of classic downtown buildings and the Minhocão.

For Megers who are not from São Paulo: the Minhocão is an elevated highway built in 1970, which cuts through our city starting from the West Zone and ending in the Center. During the week, it's open for car traffic. On weekends and holidays, the elevated highway closes, opening space for pedestrians, cyclists, rollerbladers, skateboarders, etc. to stroll and occupy the area.

And it is this beautiful view that the restaurant offers as an accompaniment to its charming lunches and dinners. The small tables are in an open space, where we can observe the day and night of our capital.
The menu is always changing, as the chefs value the use of seasonal ingredients. Therefore, here's a heads up: we made our visit in April, so the dishes might have changed.

Our order was: iced mate tea, Fugazzeta (a dish made with cheese and caramelized onions), cauliflower with pumpkin, and bread with seasoned butter.
Everything was delicious, warm, and very well made. We loved eating there and already want to go back again.

Sorveteria do Centro

Opened in 2018 by the same creators of Hot Pork, Casa do Porco, and Dona Onça, Sorveteria do Centro offers several delicious flavor options. The ice cream base and cones are made there, and everything we tried was very good.

The menu is divided into "ice creams and desserts." Ice creams are scoops in cups or cones. Desserts are more elaborate and come with different toppings. We tried the Brigadeiro, Strawberry, and Black Forest desserts and loved them.

Smart tip: avoid going there on weekends, as the place is small and usually has long lines. Since our visit was on a Thursday, our order came out quickly.

Pinacoteca de São Paulo

The Pinacoteca is a visual arts museum founded in 1905. Its collection focuses on national art created from the 19th century to the present day and holds great names such as: Tarsila do Amaral, Candido Portinari, and Anita Malfatti.

The exhibitions almost always offer an interesting mix of paintings, sculptures, videos, and objects that enrich the visit.
The museum is located in the old building of the Lyceum of Arts and Crafts, and its architecture is beautiful. Full of windows and openings, the structure allows natural light to enter - which makes the building a work of art in itself.

During our visit, we saw the exhibition "Suturas, fissuras e ruínas" by Minas Gerais artist Adriana Varejão. This exhibition allowed us to trace the artist's career through the evolution of her works.
The Pina also offers courses and other activities, so it's always worth checking the schedule available on their website.
Tickets cost* R$20 (full price) and R$10 (half price). On Saturdays and Thursdays, the museum has free admission.
Write down the address and visit too!
